PhD - Translation Studies

    The Program in the specialty "8D023 – Translation Studies".  The scope of the content of this Program covers the following problems: cognitive, linguocultural, functional-pragmatic, communicative-discursive aspects of translation in the perspective of modern translation studies.

    1. Modern theories of translation in the works of domestic and foreign scientists.
    2. The state and current trends in the development of translation science based on the modern intercultural-communicative, cognitive-linguoculturological concept of translation studies.
    3. Concepts of translation in the context of modern linguistic and discursive research.

    The subjects of the disciplines include the basic concepts and terms of modern translation science, as well as problems and prospects for the development and improvement of the theory and practice of translation in the light of cognitive linguoculturological methodology of foreign language education, cognitive-communicative concept of translation, as well as research methods and techniques reflecting the content of these platforms.

    The main goal of the EP "Translation Studies" is aimed at providing broad professional training aimed at achieving the fundamental subject knowledge of future simultaneous interpreters as highly qualified and practice-oriented specialists in the field of translation and translation studies, capable of solving issues of interlanguage communication and intercultural communication using new information technologies, as well as having practical skills in performing functions an intermediary in the field of intercultural communication; capable of using various types, techniques and technologies of translation, taking into account the nature of the translated text and the conditions of translation to achieve maximum adequacy of translation and communicative effect.

     The Program provides the doctoral student with a general integral methodology of professional activity, develops the skills of professional creativity in future specialists, forms the need for further improvement of the educational and scientific level.

    The Program is developed on the basis of a competency-based model of training specialists, which meets the needs of the labor market and the requirements of employers. This model is a description of the key competencies of graduates, their level of preparedness and readiness to perform specific professional functions.

    As part of the educational program, the following minors are studied:

    - Minor: Promising trends and modern research trends in the theory of linguistics and linguodidactics.

    - Minor: Cognitive-conceptual and linguoculturological foundations of the theory of linguistics in foreign philology, translation studies and linguodidactics.

    - Minor: Modern research trends in the theory of linguistics and linguodidactics;

    - Minor: Digital translation technologies in the modern language space

    The teaching staff in the disciplines of the EP doctoral studies in the specialty "Translation Studies" includes many candidates and doctors of sciences, professors, PhD doctors of the highest level, namely: the head of the EP "Translation Studies", Ph.D, prof. Islam A., Ph.D., prof. Makhpirov V.U., Ph.D. prof. Zhanalina L.K., Ph.D. Shevyakova T.V., PhD. Kuznetsova T.D., PhD Noruzova G.B. etc.

    One of the priority areas of international cooperation of the PhD Program "Translation Studies" is the strengthening of ties with partner universities. Every year, within the framework of the Program, foreign native-speaker teachers work by invitation. Professors in the field of language, intercultural communication and translation from Britain, Switzerland, Germany, Spain give lectures and conduct seminars for students of the EP (Prof. Russell Duffin, Prof. Gloria Gutierrez Almarza, PhD Anna Olfield etc.).

    The EP "Translation Studies" provides an opportunity, within the framework of academic mobility, to study and train abroad annually on the basis of partner universities.

    On the basis of the development plan, work was organized on cooperation with employers, leading foreign universities and other interested parties:

    - training of doctoral students in advanced training programs, as well as passing scientific and pedagogical internships: University of Lausanne (Switzerland), Busan University of Foreign Studies (Republic of Korea), Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic), Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasi (Romania), International University of Catalonia (Spain), University of Vigo (Spain), University of Giessen (Germany), University of Konstanz (Germany), University of Constantine the Philosopher in Nitra (Slovakia), Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (Kyrgyzstan), Moscow State Linguistic University (Russia), with universities in Turkey: Istanbul University, Yulduz Technological University, Bozok Kahraman Manmaras University, Kastomonu, Bahcesehir, etc.;

    Competitive advantages of EP "Translation Studies" are as follows:

    - the existing model of an integrated scientific and innovative vocational educational management system and infrastructure of the university with the help of the formulated activities for four scientific and innovative vocational educational complexes;

    - effective cooperation of KazUIR&WL with international associations for translation and interpretation, such as the Union of Translators of Kazakhstan; Higher School of Translators named after A.I. Herzen (Russia); Translation School of the University of Strasbourg (France); Aston University (England) as a full member of these organizations;

    - formation of professional foreign language competence in the process of training a professional translator.
