On March 13, 2026, the Department of Oriental Studies at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Ablai Khan University, hosted a guest lecture by Orientalist, PhD in History, Professor Anzhelika Pobedonostseva from Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University, on the topic: “The History of the Kurdish Peoples in the Middle East in the 19th – Early 20th Centuries.”
During the lecture, key issues concerning the history of the Kurdish peoples were discussed. Special attention was given to the role of the Kurds in the historical processes of the region, which is of significant interest for research in Oriental Studies.
The lecture attracted great interest from students of Oriental Studies. They listened attentively, asked questions, and gained new knowledge about the history of the peoples of the Middle East.
The lecture was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Professor E.M. Kagazbayeva; Head of the Department of Oriental Studies, PhD, Associate Professor Zh.O. Eserkepova; as well as members of the faculty, including M.F. Shamilov, F.K. Djanabekova, B.B. Baktybekova, A.E. Malimova, D.V. Ershova, and others.
Holding such guest lectures contributes to broadening students’ academic horizons and deepening their knowledge of current trends in Oriental Studies research.
