Guest lecture by a visiting professor from the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH) - Altman Ilya Alexandrovich

On September 21, at the Faculty of International Relations, a guest lecture was held by a visiting professor from the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH) - Altman Ilya Alexandrovich on the topic "Diplomats are righteous among the peoples of the world". Professor Altman is also the director of the International Center for the History of the Holocaust and Genocides of the Russian State University, a member of the Board of the Soviet Peace Foundation and the Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the History of the Great Patriotic War.

Students of 3-4 courses of the Faculty of International Relations of Kazakh Ablai khan University of International Relations and World Languages, as well as faculty members, including honorary Professor Salavat Gubaidulovich Azerbayev, took an active part in the event.

At the lecture, the book "New Documents about the Japanese diplomat – Righteous among the Peoples of the World" was presented, where the story of the Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg, who saved the Jews of Budapest and the Japanese consul in Lithuania Chiune Sugihara is in the center. This book is the result of a joint international project launched in 2012. It was opened by research articles by co-editors – Ilya Altman, Professor, a researcher at the Center for Slavic Studies at Hokkaido University David Wolf, and Professor Chizuke Takao, who has taught at leading universities in the capital of Japan for many years. The first presentation of the publication took place on September 14 at the Harriman Institute of Columbia University (New York). And today, this book was presented to the most involved and active listeners of the guest lecture among the 3-4 year students of the Faculty of International Relations, who asked questions to the lecturer and took part in the discussion on the topic.
