INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC AND PRACTICAL CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF NELLY PAK, PROFESSOR OF ABLAI KHAN KAZUIR AND WL

25.11.2022 at the Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Modern Trends in the Development of Linguistics and Oriental Studies", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Doctor of Philology, Professor Pak Nelly, organized by the Faculty of Oriental Studies, the Center for Korean Studies of Ablai Khan KazUIR and WL.  The conference began with a welcoming speech and congratulations from the Chairman of the Board - the Rector of Ablai Khan KazUIR and WL Academician Salima Kunanbayeva.  In her congratulatory speech, Nelly Pak's contribution to the development and formation of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, to maintaining the image and good business reputation of the university was noted.

The name of Pak Nelly is inextricably linked with the university: Nelly Pak graduated this university, and years later in 1993 she stood at the origins of the development of Eastern languages   in Alma mater.  In 1993, at the suggestion of the rector, academician Salima Kunanbayeva, Nelly Pak organized the teaching of the Korean language at the university.  From this moment begins the history of the Korean branch in KazUIR andWL.  In 1998, a department was created at the university, which, at the suggestion of the rector of the university, was named the Department of Oriental Studies.  Nelly Pak has been in charge of this department for 15 years.

In 2012, Nelly Pak headed the Center for Korean Studies established at KazUIR and WL and led it for several years.  Currently, Nelly Pak is the chief researcher at the Center for Korean Studies of Ablai Khan KazUIR and WL.

For achievements in education and science, NellyPak was awarded:

  • in 2010 the title of "Best University Teacher 2010" of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
  • in 2011 Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Korea and medals for contribution to the spread of the Korean language and the development of Korean studies abroad;
  • in 2021, in honor of the anniversary date of Ablai Khan KazUIR and WL, she was awarded the A. Baitursynov Gold Medal for many years of fruitful work in the system of higher and postgraduate education.

And on 25.11.2022, Nelly Pak was awarded a medal and a certificate of conferment of the Honorary title "The Best Researcher in the Field of Higher Professional Education" by the Association of Universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

 Pak Nelly has more than 90 publications on various problems of the theory of linguistics and the practice of teaching foreign languages and continues her active scientific work.

Participants and invited guests of the International Scientific and Practical Conference, which was held on 25.11.2022 at Ablai Khan KazUIR and WL were well-known linguists and orientalists, associates and colleagues, Korean scholars from universities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan.  Scientists from around the world, including from England, Germany, Canada, the Republic of Korea, congratulated the hero of the day and wished him good health, creative and scientific longevity.
