GUEST LECTURES DURING THE 5TH WEEK OF KOREAN STUDIES

30.11.-01.12.2023, at the Ablai khan Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages ​​, as part of the 5th Week of Korean Studies, guest lectures were held for 1-4 year students of the Korean section of the Faculty of Oriental Studies.

On November 30, a graduate of the Korean section of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, now the executive director of Alash Industrial Maintenance Services (AIMS) LLP, chairman of the Association of Alumni of the Korean section of Ablai khan KazUIR and WL Shaikenov Askhat Talgatbekovich gave a lecture on the topic “Features of the work of a translator,” in which he told the students present about an interesting , but the difficult work of a translator, about the “pitfalls” of a translator’s work, about the peculiarities of the work of interpreters. The meeting took place in a relaxed atmosphere in the form of a conversation. The invited guest talked with students, gave advice, and shared his experience.About 50 students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies attended the event. The lecture was interesting and educational. Listeners received meaningful and detailed answers to the questions asked.

On December 1, as part of the 5th Week of Korean Studies, a guest lecture on the topic “The fate of Koryo saram through the prism of the history of the Koryo Ilbo newspaper” for students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies was given by Konstantin Stanislavovich Kim, editor-in-chief of the republican Korean newspaper “Koryo Ilbo”. Together with the guest, they were present at the meeting employees of the Koryo Ilbo newspaper, graduates of the Faculty of Oriental Studies 2023 Diana Son and Alexandra Kim.

At the lecture, students were able to learn many interesting and educational facts about the Koryo Ilbo newspaper, which recently celebrated a significant event - its 100th anniversary, about the history of the resettlement of Koreans from the Far East to Central Asia, about the role the newspaper played and continues to play in life Korean diaspora in Kazakhstan, how the newspaper has changed during this time. At the end of the lecture, students were able to ask questions of interest to the invited guests. And our graduates Son Diana and Kim Alexandra shared their impressions of working at the newspaper, interesting meetings, and shared interesting ideas that can be useful for modern students.

At the end of the lecture, a quiz was held with a drawing of small prizes from the editors of the Koryo Ilbo newspaper, in which our students were able to show their knowledge and receive memorable gifts.
