Meeting with Zh. Dutmaghanbetov the author of the book “1812: War and Peace”

21.02.2024 - Students and teaching staff of the Faculty of Translation and Philology met the author of the book «1812 жыл: Соғыс және бейбітшілік» (“1812: War and Peace”) Zhalgaskali Dutmaghanbetov. The director of the publishing house "Tolganay T" and writer-publicist Talgat Aitbayuly, the editor of the book, writer Omirzak Mukay, translator Aliya Nauryzalina, as well as the film crew of the "Kazakhstan" TV channel also came to the meeting. The historical and artistic work tells about the outstanding contribution of Kazakhs to the war of the Russian Empire against Napoleon's army in 1812, referring to reliable sources from archives.

Our students were given a unique opportunity to share their impressions with the author of the book. Zh.Dutmaghanbetov shakes off the dust of history and restores undeservedly forgotten names and facts of life of Kazakhs of the past difficult time. The pages of the book describe some details of the war of 1812, bravery and courage of nomads who fought side by side with Russian soldiers, pursuing Napoleon's army to the heart of Europe, Paris, and about the toilers of the home front, who provided great help to the front, providing food, clothing, livestock and money, working in the rear.

The author of the book noted that by bringing historical events to life, he also raises important questions about spiritual and moral values and the rich cultural heritage of our ancestors.

The students confessed that the book was a source of inspiration and gave them food for thought. The meeting had a profound impact on its readers, broadening their understanding of the history of their ancestors and opening the veil of the past, which had long remained hidden and patiently stood in the wings.
