СA large-scale event – Model United Nations is being held today in Kazakh Ablai khan University. Model UN is the synthesis of a scientific conference and a role play game, during which students reproduce the process of work of the Organization, gain diplomatic, declamatory and language skills, leadership ability and competence of coming to a compromise.

The speakers of the opening ceremony are:

  • Dr. Klara U. Kunakova, Vice-Rector of the Kazakh Ablai khan University;
  • Charles Martin, Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Consulate General, Almaty;
  • Vlastimil Samek, Representative of the UN Department of Public Information;
  • Sergey Karpov, National Program Officer, Information and Communication, UNESCO;
  • Ainur Dyusyubekova, UNFPA representative;
  • Dr. Rafis Abazov, Director of New Silk Way Model UN Program.

Students participating at the Model UN perform the roles of the official representatives of the Member States, who come to the conference to discuss issues on the agenda of the Committee. Meetings of the UN Human Rights Council and UN Economic and Social Council are being conducted today. Delegates abstract away from their personal point of view and defend the official position of the represented country. The ultimate goal of each Committee is to accept resolution on the issue.
