Online lectures within the frameworks of the project “One Asia - One World”

It has become a warm tradition at the Faculty of International Relations to organize regular online lectures and meetings with foreign and domestic professors within the framework of the project “One Asia - One World”, financed by the Japanese fund “Eurasia Foundation”.

As the Chairman of the Eurasia Foundation, a patron Yoji Sato, says: “Yes, the world has changed dramatically, and we must adapt to changes in various areas. The main thing for us is the formation of real professionals with a high level of qualifications, therefore, education is a process of acquiring fundamental knowledge, one of the important forms of the spiritual culture of any society, and its development is the most important factor in the renewal of all the main spheres of human life, society and the entire Eurasian community”.

So, on April 2, 2021, the University hosted an online lecture by the head of the Department of Modern History of Kazakhstan and Worldview Disciplines of the FIR, Professor, Doctor of Historical Sciences Zara Dzhuandykovna Shaimordanova on the topic “Population of Asia as geopolitical and geo-economic factors”. Professor Shaimordanova is the author of many publications and books on world and national history, demography, foreign policy and international cooperation.

Students listened with great interest to a two-hour lecture on the problems of demography and migration in the region, on the megatrends of global development, the role of diplomacy in solving the international economic problems of Eurasia.

Another long-awaited guest lecture on the topical issues of the international cooperation in Asia “Trade War between USA and China, and Global Security in Asian Community”, was held on April 9 by professor from the Republic of Korea Chun Byong-soon. Introducing Professor Chun Byong-soon, the head of the project “One Asia - One World” Professor Aidarbekov Z.S. emphasized that Professor Chun is a great friend of our university, a leading political scientist, a specialist in international regional studies and anthropology, Professor of Al-Farabi KazNU and the Eurasian Foundation.

The graduates of KazUIR & WL have excellent career prospects both in Kazakhstan and at the international organizations. Today you are the future of Kazakhstan! Its further revival and prosperity depend on you. The University with an 80-year history provides you with a qualitative education, helping you to find your way to the future! I wish you make the right choice, and remember, your success is in your hands!”.

Professor Chun Byong-soon in his lecture demonstrated the main trends of global development in the world and the region, the growing political rivalry between the United States and China, which quickly led to conflicts on the “economic front”, to balancing on the brink of a trade war. He also talked about the difficulties of joining the fourth technological revolution, “windows of opportunity” and the risks of "One belt and one road", topical problems of modern geopolitics and international relations. The main leitmotif of the lecture was Central Asia and China, the United States in the world economy: the search for new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation in Eurasia. Students asked many questions about modern geopolitics and professional competences of future diplomats, the meeting sometimes even turned into a discussion on the multifaceted nature of Eurasia and “hot spots” in Asia.
