Republican Online Roundtable: Intercultural communication and functional-pragmatic studies of languages and cultures

    The faculty of postgraduate education together with the faculty of translation and philology, alongside with the department of postgraduate education,  department of translation and communication, and the department of theory of foreign philology of Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages  held an online republican roundtable on the topic “Intercultural communication and functional-pragmatic studies of languages and cultures” as one of a series of scientific events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages. It was attended by the leading scholars of our university, as well as master and doctoral students of higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan, in particular, representatives of the L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University (Nur-Sultan) and Academician A. Kuatbekov university of peoplesfriendship (Shymkent).

    The Roundtable was led by the moderator of the event Doctor of phil.sciences, professor B.Kh.Ismagulova. The Dean of the faculty of postgraduate education doctor of political sciences, professor K.Sh.Baisultanova made a welcoming speech to the speakers and listeners. The keynote speakers of the Roundtable – head of the department of speech practice of foreign languages, PhD Aizhan Kurkimbayeva, and the 3rd year doctoral students majored in “Translation studies” Tolganay Nuradilova and Nursaule Blashova have focused on the current problems of modern translation studies in their speeches. Aizhan Kurkimbayeva in her report “New research trends in translation studies and philology” highlighted anthropocentrism, appeal to a mankind and his/her activities as the most important factor determining new directions in translation studies and philology. Tolganay Nuradilova in her report “Translation as means of achieving intercultural communication” emphasized the role of translation as a means of achieving intercultural understanding and communication in the period of global integration processes. Nursaule Blashova in her report noted the importance of the cognitive component for academic discourse as a communication in the educational space, aimed at the transfer and exchange of knowledge.

    The research findings presented by the young researchers – master students of both our university and other partner universities have been utterly thoughtful and relevant. In particular, it is worth noting a high level of preparations of master students of L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University, which is our partner university: “Film language as a form of art: translation peculiarities of the film “Aladdin” by Algarinova Zh.B., “Linguo-stylistic analysis of the translation of Sarah Gio’s novel “Blackberry winter” by Kadirsheeva A.Zh., “ Translation problems of quasi-realies in a literary text (based on the materials of the work of Veronica Roth “Insurgent”,”Elligent”) by Orazalieva S.S.

    During the discussion session of the Roundtable the leading scholars and specialists, in particular the head of the department of foreign philology, PhD, Buadat Karabaeva, head of the department of translation and intercultural communication, senior lecturer Sholpan Saimkulova, and candidate of phil. sciences, associate professor Alevtina Baimbetova have shared their views on the topic of the Roundtable. The dean of the faculty of postgraduate education doctor of political sciences, professor K.Sh.Baisultanova has also greatly appreciated the high level of preparation and enthusiasm of the Roundtable participants.
