As Kazakhstan continues to modernize its scientific and educational system through comprehensive reforms, the contributions of distinguished scholars who helped lay the foundations of the country’s higher education and research institutions remain central to the nation’s progress. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the state and the scientific community have once again recognized individuals whose decades of service have shaped the nation’s intellectual landscape and guided the strategic development of Kazakhstani science.

Among the distinguished scholars honored on this occasion is Academician Salima Sagievna Kunanbayeva, an eminent Kazakhstani scholar, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Full Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Rector and Chair of the Management Board of Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages.
As part of the events marking the 80th anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aqylbek Kurishbaev, President of the National Academy of Sciences, presented the commemorative badge to Salima Sagievna Kunanbayeva on behalf of the Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

This prestigious recognition reflects her long-standing contribution to the development of Kazakhstan’s science and education, as well as to the training of highly qualified professionals. It also highlights the close connection between the advancement of modern academic thought and a sustained commitment to core scientific and pedagogical principles.
Professor Kunanbayeva’s academic path represents a model of consistent and distinguished professional development. Having begun her teaching career in the mid-1960s, she progressed through all key stages of the academic profession. Following the defense of her doctoral dissertation in 1992, she made a significant conceptual breakthrough in Kazakhstan’s humanities scholarship. Under her leadership, a unique scientific and methodological school of foreign language education was established in Kazakhstan, which gained international recognition. In recognition of her outstanding scholarly accomplishments, she was elected a Full Member (Academician) of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2017.
Under her leadership, Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages has developed into one of the country’s leading academic and research institutions, gaining wide recognition for its successful integration into the global higher education and research community.
The Academy’s anniversary award stands as a symbol of profound gratitude from both the state and the scientific community to Salima Sagievna Kunanbayeva for her outstanding contribution to the development of science and education in Kazakhstan, her role in nurturing new generations of the country’s intellectual elite, and her high standing within the international academic and educational community.
