On February 20, 2026, the Department of International Law successfully held the II City Law Olympiad “Legal Marathon” among graduates of colleges in Almaty city.
The event brought together talented and motivated students interested in an in-depth study of law and in building a professional legal career. The main goal of the Olympiad was to create favorable conditions for identifying and supporting the most gifted and academically prepared graduates, who possess solid knowledge of the law, a high level of legal culture, developed legal thinking, and literacy. The Olympiad was aimed at fostering their further intellectual growth, professional orientation, and informed choice of future specialization.

Graduates from Turan College, College of KazNU named after Al-Farabi, the International College of Business and Communication, the Law College, and Narxoz College took part in the intellectual competition. All participants demonstrated a high level of preparation, engagement, and commitment to professional development.
As part of the Olympiad program, participants were given a tour of specialized classrooms where practical-oriented training is conducted. The particular interest was the forensic laboratory, where students develop practical skills in evidence collection and analysis, including trace and handwriting examinations, as well as the study of physical evidence. Participants were also introduced to the courtroom, a modern training facility designed to simulate real judicial proceedings and to develop skills in legal rhetoric and procedural practice.

The Olympiad consisted of two rounds. The first stage involved testing on the basics of civil and criminal law, which allowed for an objective assessment of the participants’ theoretical knowledge. The second round focused on solving a simulated legal case, presented in a case-study format, with subsequent oral presentation and justification of the proposed legal solution. During this stage, participants demonstrated their ability to freely apply legal concepts, analyze case circumstances, anticipate possible developments, propose alternative solutions, and argue their positions effectively.

Based on the results of both rounds, participants demonstrated strong theoretical knowledge, well-developed analytical skills, and established professional competencies. All participants received certificates of participation, while the winners were awarded I, II, and III-degree diplomas and commemorative gifts. Participants who displayed initiative, original thinking, and high levels of professional communication were recognized with special certificates in the following categories: “Best Law Expert,” “Most Creative Approach to Case Solving,” “Best Scholar,” “Best Persuader,” and “Best Legal Mind.”
Overall, the Olympiad was held at a high organizational and substantive level, in an atmosphere of intellectual competition, academic goodwill, and mutual respect. The “Legal Marathon” once again confirmed the relevance of such initiatives and their significant role in shaping the future professional legal community, contributing to the development of legal literacy, practical skills, and informed professional choices among young specialists.
