The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan has announced a competition for grant funding for young researchers under the “Zhas Galym” project for 2027.
Application period: 12 October–11 November 2026.
Project start date: January 2027. Project duration: 36 months.
The competition aims to develop highly qualified and competitive researchers, attract and retain talented young people in science, and increase the proportion of young researchers.
Funding per project is up to KZT 30 million for the entire project period, including up to KZT 10 million annually. Both fundamental and applied research are supported.
The grant is intended for an individual research project conducted by a postdoctoral researcher with a scientific adviser. Other research team members and support staff are not предусмотрены. Each postdoctoral researcher may participate in only one application.
Priority research area:
1. Fundamental research, scientific groundwork, and scientific potential.
Main requirements for postdoctoral researchers:
• Citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan and an age of 44 or younger at the time of application;
• A PhD, a professional doctorate, a Doctor of Sciences or Candidate of Sciences degree, or completion of the full doctoral study programme. Applicants who have not yet defended their dissertation must do so within 12 months of signing the agreement;
• An article and/or review in the relevant research field published in peer-reviewed international and/or domestic journals recommended by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education;
• No leadership of state-budget-funded research projects or programmes during the preceding 18 months, and no participation in their research teams at a full-time or greater workload during the preceding 6 months;
• A domestic and/or international scientific adviser whose expertise matches the project’s research area and who meets the requirements of the competition documentation;
• Teaching at a higher and postgraduate education institution with a workload of at least 5 ECTS credits per academic yearduring the project period.
