From April 17 to 28, 2023, the Center for Korean Studies of Ablai khan KazUIR and WL spent days of the Korean language and culture at the Faculty of Oriental Studies. Within 2 weeks, a video contest among 1st year students, an essay contest among 2nd year students and a day of Korean cuisine among 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students of the Korean Department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies were held. In total, about 170 students studying the Korean language took part in the events.
May 4 Center of Korean studies at Ablai Khan KazUIR and WL summed up the results of the video contest "Why I'm learning Korean", essay contest. According to the results of the video contest held among freshmen, the winners were determined:
~ 1st place - Kanapiya Kundyz
~ 2nd place - Abduahitova Alina
~ 3rd place - Can Adelina
In total, 15 2nd-year students of the Korean department of three educational programs took part in the essay contest in Korean. According to the results of the competition , the prizes were distributed as follows:
~ 1st place - Zhumagali Madina
~ 2nd place - Mukhambetzhan Zhansaya
~ 3rd place - Nurmamet Moldir
April 28 in the banquet hall of KazUMO and WL named after Abylai Khan hosted the annual Day of Korean Cuisine. The event was attended by 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students of the Korean branch of the Faculty of Oriental Studies. Pak Su Bok, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Oriental Language Translation, held a master class on cooking kimbap and tteokbokki for 1st and 2nd year students. The participants of this event, and these are 110 freshmen and sophomores studying the Korean language, were able to gain invaluable experience in cooking Korean dishes in practice.
About 50 students of the 3rd year of the Korean branch of the Faculty of Oriental Studies took part in the competition for cooking kimbap and teokbokki. By the decision of a strict competent jury, the winning teams were determined:
~ 1st place was taken by the team of the 317th group: Adilbek Zhanel, Yeleukanova Erkezhan, Eskali Malika, Sapar Meruert, Zhaukerbayeva Madina and Kodas Makpal.
~ 2nd place was taken by the team of group 309: Nazarbayev Erasyl, Volkoboeva Maria, Babenova Anar, Boranbay Aruzhan and Ruslanova Anelya
~ 3rd place was shared by the team of the 307th group and the team of the 318th group: Kim Veronika, Uspanova Diana, Sabirbayeva Lazzat, Makhmutova Saule, Du Christina, Kasenova Sabina, Zhumabek Balausa, Murat Zhuldyz, Nurlanova Nurgul, Muratova Zere, Adilkhanova Ayganym and Abd irrasylkyzy Madina.
The event was held in a friendly atmosphere, students could ask their questions regarding the intricacies of Korean cuisine, chat with each other and enjoy the dishes prepared.
The Korean Language and Culture Week was organized and conducted by the Center for Korean Studies and teachers of the Korean Department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies with the support of the Education Center at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Kazakhstan.
