On December 5, 2024, the Department of Information and Communication Technologies of Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages, together with the Center for Distance Education, organized and held a student competition for presentations on information and communication technologies, dedicated to the theme 'Using Computer Technologies in Work with Texts.' The competition was held among students from the Faculty of Oriental Studies, the Faculty of Translation and Philology, and the Pedagogical Faculty of Foreign Languages in a traditional (offline) format. First-year students participated, studying the specialties of 'Translation Studies' and 'Foreign Philology' (European and Oriental Languages).
The competition was held in two sections. A total of 56 first-year students participated, both individually and in teams (16 teams). Each team presented its original work. Students prepared presentations in three languages: Kazakh, Russian, and English.
The goals of the contest were as follows:
- To familiarize students with the integration of computer technologies in working with texts;
- To demonstrate the importance of students' use of information and communication technologies;
- To stimulate students' interest in information and computer technologies at various stages of their education.
The supervisers of the students' competition projects were teachers from the Department of ICT: Karpenko T.E., Berdygulova A.D., Eleusizova G.S., Adilbekova A.K., and Trofimova A.V.
The jury of the competition included faculty members from the ICT department and a representative from the sponsor, Dial Group — Assem Izatullayeva. The jury members evaluated the contestants' projects and determined the winners.
During the competition, the following criteria were assessed: slide design, choice of linguistic task, use of computer technologies to solve the tasks, interpretation of results obtained through computers, and overall speech delivery. The winners of the competition were awarded diplomas from our university.
The competition was held with great interest and enthusiasm. Students used intellectual systems for working with texts, proposing unique ideas for interpreting specific data and visualizations derived from the use of the Voyant Tools system. More experienced participants also employed Python programming to conduct a more detailed analysis. As a result, students expanded their knowledge in philology and explored new technological tools for text analysis.
The organizers expressed interest in the technological aspect of the text analysis conducted by the students and also noted the high level of preparation demonstrated by the participants.

Thank you for such a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate your skills and look at the unique works and interpretations of other students.
