November 24-25 at the Ablai khan Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages, within the framework of the 5th Week of Korean Studies, the 13th Central Asian Olympiad in Korean Studies and the 8th Conference of Young Researchers in Korean Studies of the CIS Countries were held.
This year, the co-organizer of the Week of Korean Studies at Ablai khan KazUIR and WL was addressed by a long-time partner of the university – Chung-ang University of the Republic of Korea. A number of organizations and institutions, such as the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Almaty, the Education Center at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Kazakhstan, the Association of South Korean Businessmen in Kazakhstan, and the International Korea Foundation, provided support for these events, aimed at training a new generation of researchers and promoting academic exchange. , Agency for the Development of Korean Studies Abroad of the Academy of Korean Studies of the Republic of Korea, Association of Alumni of the Korean Branch of Ablai khan KazUIR and WL.
In total, 120 people took part in the events - students and accompanying teachers from 18 universities in 9 cities in 6 countries. Kazakhstan was represented by Ablai khan KazUIR and WL, Al-Farabi KazNU, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Suleyman Demirel University, Linguistic College, Pedagogical College of Foreign Languages, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Nazarbayev University, Kyzylorda University. Korkyt ata, Taraz Regional University named after. M.Kh.Dulaty, Sarsen Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University. Kyrgyzstan was represented by the Kyrgyz University of Central Asia, the Kyrgyz-Korean College, Uzbekistan was represented by the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, Bucheon University in Tashkent. For the first time, students from Baku State University, representing Azerbaijan, and students from Ilia State University from Georgia took part in the events.
At the opening ceremony, held on November 24, the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Almaty, Pak Naechon, addressed all those present with a welcoming speech and expressed words of support to all participants of the Olympiad and conference, accompanying teachers and all interested parties, and wished all events successful. Vice-Rector for Strategic Development of Ablai khan KazUIR and WL Ms. Kunanbaeva D.A. and Vice-Rector for International Relations of Chung-ang University, Mr. Woo Suhan, making a welcoming speech, wished the participants of the Olympiad success, and the participants of the conference fruitful work, and all those present - success in research work and the formation and strengthening of the potential of young researchers.
At the 8th conference of young researchers of Korean studies of the CIS, interesting reports were presented, including “Comparison of poetry about the four seasons of the Great Eastern poets Abai Kunanbayev and Kim Sovol” (Mukhambetzhan Zhansaya, Erbol Azhar, Bazarbay Gauhar, 3rd grade students of Ablai khan KazUIR and WL), “The Effect of Over-education on Life Satisfaction among South Koreans” (Gauhar Temirgalieva, 4th grade student at Nazarbayev University), “Influence of Korean Culture in Georgia” (Natia Iakobishvili, 4th grade student, Ilia National University ), “Modern features of the development of the beauty industry in the Republic of Korea” (Iroda Mamarasulova, 1st degree master’s student at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies).
The 13th Central Asian Olympiad in Korean Studies took place over two days. All participants of the Central Asian Olympiad in Korean Studies showed a high level of knowledge of the Korean language, which complicated the work of the jury, which included the Director of the Education Center at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Kazakhstan, Mr. Kim Tae-hwan, and the Director of the branch of РОSСО JSC in Almaty, Mr. Park Byung Wook, member of the Board of Shinhan Bank Kazakhstan, Mr. John Byungkyu, leading lawyer of the law firm BLJ Lawfirm, Mr. Lee Jae-wook. Based on the results of an impartial jury evaluation, one first place, two second places, three third places, four honorable mentions were awarded, and a prize was also awarded from the Korean Branch Alumni Association. The first place was awarded to a 2nd year student of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Ablai khan KazUIR and WL Tsoi Yana, who was also awarded a special prize by the rector of Chung-ang University - a scholarship for one semester of study at Chung-ang University under the academic mobility program, the winner of the Olympiad also received the opportunity to study language courses in the Republic of Korea with the support of the Korea International Foundation.
Events organized by the Center for Korean Studies of Ablai khan KazUIR and WL together with Chung-ang University as part of the Korean Studies Week were successfully completed.
