Student self-government of Ablai Khan University is a structural unit of the university based on the principles of unity and mutual support.

The main objectives of the Self-government  are to activate and motivate students to create student clubs, support and create conditions for the implementation of student initiatives and projects.

Student self-government is an association whose tasks are:

- combining efforts and coordinating the actions of students who actively participate in the social life of the university;

- organization of cultural and mass activities of students;

Doctoral degree in the specialty «6D011900 - Foreign language: two foreign languages" provides training for scientists, government agencies, university professors with an academic degree - Doctor PhD.

The innovative doctoral program in the specialty: «6D011900- Foreign language: two foreign languages" approved and adopted a protocol decision of the meeting of MES RK on experimental programs of the Republican Council of 12 July 2008.

Doctoral PhD-  Elite education, is the highest level of research training in the scientific system of the Republic of Kazakhstan.    

The goal of the program:

- Preparation of doctoral students (with assignment of the degree of "Doctor of Education"), owning two foreign languages:

- Preparation a new generation of Kazakhstan, as a modern, multi-faceted creative, polylingual,to be  able to compete both in the domestic and in the global labor market;

- Creation on the basis of educational integration and effective training system skills of scientific and pedagogical staff of the new formation, are able to solve the issues of improving society, science and the development of new technologies;

- Harmonization of domestic technologies of preparations scientific-pedagogical personnel  with international standards, as well as issues of scientific, methodological, legal, financial and economic, personnel and logistics;

- Implementation of the educational process in accordance with the principles of international practice of training scientific-pedagogical personnel, competitive in today's job market.

To this end, a doctoral passes a theoretical course and carries out independent original research, characterized by considerable relevance and practical significance. The findings are issued in the form of a doctoral thesis, which takes place in the defense of the established order.

The Program in the specialty "8D023 – Translation Studies".  The scope of the content of this Program covers the following problems: cognitive, linguocultural, functional-pragmatic, communicative-discursive aspects of translation in the perspective of modern translation studies.

1. Modern theories of translation in the works of domestic and foreign scientists.
2. The state and current trends in the development of translation science based on the modern intercultural-communicative, cognitive-linguoculturological concept of translation studies.
3. Concepts of translation in the context of modern linguistic and discursive research.

The subjects of the disciplines include the basic concepts and terms of modern translation science, as well as problems and prospects for the development and improvement of the theory and practice of translation in the light of cognitive linguoculturological methodology of foreign language education, cognitive-communicative concept of translation, as well as research methods and techniques reflecting the content of these platforms.

The main goal of the EP "Translation Studies" is aimed at providing broad professional training aimed at achieving the fundamental subject knowledge of future simultaneous interpreters as highly qualified and practice-oriented specialists in the field of translation and translation studies, capable of solving issues of interlanguage communication and intercultural communication using new information technologies, as well as having practical skills in performing functions an intermediary in the field of intercultural communication; capable of using various types, techniques and technologies of translation, taking into account the nature of the translated text and the conditions of translation to achieve maximum adequacy of translation and communicative effect.

 The Program provides the doctoral student with a general integral methodology of professional activity, develops the skills of professional creativity in future specialists, forms the need for further improvement of the educational and scientific level.

The Program is developed on the basis of a competency-based model of training specialists, which meets the needs of the labor market and the requirements of employers. This model is a description of the key competencies of graduates, their level of preparedness and readiness to perform specific professional functions.

- the existing model of an integrated scientific and innovative vocational educational management system and infrastructure of the university with the help of the formulated activities for four scientific and innovative vocational educational complexes;

Due to the integration of Kazakhstan into the world educational process and with the development of globalization, there is a necessity to train highly qualified researchers and teachers of philological disciplines who are aware of the main directions of modern scientific thought and methodology of foreign language education. PhD program on “Foreign Philology” is aimed at a broad outlook of the cognitive and conceptual, linguoculturological and methodological components of philological scientific thought.

Nowadays with the usage of new technologies and an ever-expanding digital space, access to foreign language information, its comprehensive professional understanding and effective application is one of the decisive factors that ensure the development of modern society.

A PhD student on “Foreign Philology” specialty acquires the following knowledge and skills during the learning process:

• Ability to apply various modern scientific research methods to the objects of linguistics and literary studies;
• Ability to distinguish between true and false hypotheses, to find the best ways of solving scientific problems;
• Ability to conduct research not only to prove the correctness of the hypothesis, but in order to obtain data important for science;
• Ability to trace the development of the language in the diachronic aspect and the impact of historical events on certain historical background;
• Ability to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge in the methodology of foreign language education and in research activities.

PhD lasts 3 years. Within three years, the PhD student receives knowledge on the latest trends in the scientific philological field and improves the chosen foreign language to a high academic level as well.

Pedagogical practice is carried out with the aim of formin practical teaching skills in higher education.

Research practice contributes to the improvement of scientific work skills – collecting, systematizing, experimenting, analyzing the studied material and using it when writing a PhD thesis and scientific articles.

Requirements for applicants:

• Completed master’s course with a supporting document (diploma);
• Language level certificate;
• A set of required threshold scores for testing and essay;

Testing for admission to PhD is carried out twice, in the summer and winter. Thus, the applicant can retake the test within six months if the threshold score has not been scored.

The PhD program allows for an integrative approach to fundamental training in the chosen specialty and related disciplines, to understand the variety of foreign trends and concepts of modern linguistics and literary studies.

M056 – Translation Studies, simultaneous interpretation

The aim of the group of study programmes “M056 - Translation Studies, simultaneous interpretation” is oriented to prepare highly-qualified specialists who master written and oral translation and intercultural communication, who can think critically, who is able to manage development of science and technology in translation studies, to analyze and professionally solve topical translation problems, who knows professional competencies. The programmes trains researchers in the sphere of theory, practice and methodology of translation, who are able to solve translation issues applying contemporary research methods.

Translator training at the Master degree on scientific-pedagogical direction is carried out two years; on profiled direction for one year.

Student’s life in Kazakh Ablai khan university of international relations and world languages is loaded of events. Despite the high workload with lectures, seminars and independent work in the University libraries the active students realize their initiatives, organize and conduct events because they want to keep this time for long in their minds.
